Overview

From Jackson Gore - Quantum Four - Sunburst Six  - Lunch at Smokey Jo's - Double Blacks on the South Face - Return to Jackson Gore

1. 8 AM – Uncovering Jackson Gore's Finest Terrain

Boot-up in the Jackson Gore Roundhouse (grab a locker in the basement if necessary). Jump on the Coleman Brook Express for a 2 minute ride and turn left to quickly connect to the Quantum Four. From the lift, you can spot your first run - Quantam Leap. Zoom down Vortex to this black groomer. Warm-up your carving skills on this incredible, straight-as-an-arrow fall line with some amazing rollers and manicured snow. Repeat this several times, or until the less die-hard crowd begins to find this trail. This is an easy way to log 10,000 vertical before 10 AM if you like (~ 6 runs).

Once warmed up, its time to find some ungroomed terrain. This time, take a left off of the Quantum Four, cruise down Sunset Strip and take the second left on to Upper Limelight and then an immediate left onto White Lightning. This is an ungroomed, rolling, multiple fall line bump run. Follow this for a few hundred yards and then take the first right onto Rolling Thunder. This double black is by far down the longest, continuous bump run (1,500 vertical feet) at Okemo. The bumps here are skier-formed, unlike the mostly man-made variety at much of Okemo. It's often still powdery later in the day due to it's somewhat tucked away location. Once it finally tumbles back to Quantum Leap, jump on Quantum Four again.

Extra Challenge: From the top, head right and look immediately into the woods for Black Hole. Ignore the Double Diamond sign with the hazardous obstacle warning and dive into this tight, exciting tree run. This also dumps back out to Quantam Leap, just in time for its best fall line. Head back to the Quantum Four.

From the top of the lift, take a right onto Tuckered Out, to quickly connect to Big Bang. While ungroomed, this typically is more chopped powder and untracked snow. You fill find some bigger moguls on the backside of the steeper pitches but feel free to let it go a bit. This dumps out onto Eclipse, a gentler run that rolls back down to the top of the Coleman Brook Express and a quick turn to get back on the Quantum Four for additional laps.

2. 11:00 AM – Fast Tracks off of the Sunburst Six

When you are ready for a chance of scenery, head left off of Quantum Four and get ready for a scenic, meandering run to crossover to Clock Tower Base. Follow Sunset Strip to Mountain Road and head left. This will cut across the middle of many classic Okemo groomers on Solitude. Cruise along until it you reach Lower Arrow. Head left and follow this to Lower Mountain Road and look for the Sunburst Six Bubble. At the top, turn left and look for the Super G start shack, then cruise down Chief. This is a classic race hill with lots of vertical. You can really hit some MPH here and are less likely to see lower level skiers. Lookout for the airplane turn on the left towards the bottom third. This is the make it or break it section for racers nearly a minute into their race. Head right at the bottom to get back onto the Sunburst Six .

Another classic is World Cup. Take a left off the top and then look right onto Countdown, then an immediate left onto World Cup. While the upper section is black the lower is blue, but with an exciting double fall line. It is tilted quite heavily to the left, giving the right turns some serious g-forces, especially if you are laying the skis over. Watch out for some big rollers on the way down (and some possible lost beginners). At the bottom, look left for the Sunburst.

3. 12:00 PM – 1 PM – Lunch at Smokey Jo's (see more on lunch options)

From the bottom of World Cup you can take the Sunburst Six back to the top and zoom down Noreaster directy to the Sugarhouse. Smokey Jo's is inside the Sugarhouse. If you are starving, head past the Sunburst , down Lower Mountain Road and take the A or B Quad lifts to reach the Sugarhouse

4. 1 PM – 2 PM – Make your way to the South Face

After lunch, return to the Sunburst Six. Exit left and take Challenger, this skinny Black connects to Countdown, a groomed cruiser. Follow Countdown under the Glades Peak Quad. Rip some groomer turns and get ready to head to the South Face for more bumps and trees! Glades Peak will allow you to rest for 10-12 minutes (it's a fixed grip quad). Turn left off the lift and follow Rim Rock to Blind Faith (barely a black) to the bottom of the South Face Base Area.

5. 2 PM – 3 PM – Returning to the Clock Tower Base and a Victory Lap

Take the South Face Express Quad and whisk back to the top. This is an excellent place to be when it’s sunny - the southern exposure loosens everything up (though watch out if it's super cold, as it's quite exposed). Exit left and follow Rim Rock past Blind Faith and look immediately right for Forest Bump. You will see the trail warning sign again (Black Diamond, hazardous etc.). Head straight into the thick of it and let the games begin! Once you get through the first 100 feet, this open up into an amazingly wide tree run with wonderful rolling terrain. Head further right to find some untracked stuff. After more than 1,000 vertical feet of glorious trees, this connects to Cat Nap. Keep your speed and head right back to the South Face Express.

From the Top, head left again and look almost immediately left onto Double Diamond. This is technically a tree run, but it's actually super open and really, mostly a bump run with the occasional tree to navigate. They even make snow here and it's a large snow cat can fit through most of the gaps. This feeds into Moment's Rest, from which you can connect to the bottom of Rim Rock and then take Sachem, if you have had enough, and want to return to the Clock Tower Base

Extra: If you want more (and bumps, in particular), stay right to take Cat Nap back turn to the South Face. At the top, turn right and look for Outrage. This is a slightly narrower, steeper parallel run to Double Diamond, emptying onto Moment's Rest. Follow this to the top of the Sachem Quad. Head directly under Sachem for a quick cruise down Easy Street to reach Ledges. Look for the moguls ahead sign and once mostly down Ledges, keep an eye out left for the cut through on Zip to reach the Sunburst Six

6. 3 PM – 4 PM – Cruising Back to Jackson Gore

Head right at the top of Sunburst and look for Sweet Solitude and connect to Coleman Brook. For a great wind down run (just watch out for tired Beginners), cross Mountain Road and take Sidewinder. This has a fun steeper fall line in the middle, but make sure to look left for Moonshadow as you make your way down. Moonshadow will take you through two tunnels, then go left onto Southern Crossing to take you home to Jackson Gore

Time to Après! Head straight to the Hotel Lobby Bar (they have quite the whiskey list) or to the Taphouse above the Roundhouse Lodge. At the Taphouse you will find many local beers (some many to choose from in Vermont) and some tasty bites.
