GRAB A BEER / LIVE MUSIC
Garibaldi Lift Co. (GLC), Whistler Gondola Building
Conveniently located at the top of the Whistler Gondola building, its hard to leave Whistler's Main Base without passing by. Few places successfully hit the trifecta of outdoor space, lounge space and transforming to a club late night. GLC fires on all cylinders. The outdoor patios are a big draw, relax by the picturesque firepits and heat lamps and watch others making their way off the mountain. Bonus, its also family friendly until ~7pm.
Merlins Bar & Grill, Blackcomb Base
Ease into your après experience with beer on tap and heaping nacho platters. Slightly out of the way, in the Upper portion of the Village, this is where you come to stay. Come early, it gets crowded, especially during peak times. chill for the afternoon and get comfortable, the party starts later. This is a prime venue for The Hairfarmers, a local rock group that has been voted "Whistler's Best Band" since 2001.
PARTY
LUXURY
The Mallard Lounge, The Fairmont
When in search of something mellower (and more upscale), this is our go to spot. Its relaxed and cozy with a large fireplace and floor to ceiling windows with stunning views of Blackcomb's Base. The cocktails are creative and the liquor list includes fine brown spirits. The scene is a on the quieter side, but there is live music later in the evening. Also, indulge in the chocolate bar.
Hunter Gatherer, Main Street, Shopping Centre
Eat and drink well at this newish (estb 2017) counter service, dining establishment. The ingredients are locally sourced, the vibe is casual and the prices, pretty reasonable. Smoked meat platters and veggies are some of the highlights. Portions are hearty and filling. We like this for last minute plans and larger parties - the space is a good size and they do not take reservations.
LOCAL CRAFT BREWS & HEARTY FOOD
FOR THE FAMILY
Purebread, Olympic Plaza
Tantalizing array of freshly baked goods. You will want to come twice a day...every day. Breakfast and then again after a day on the slopes for some well earned treats. Its hard to choose, we like the seeded baguettes, sour cherry scones and adults only cookies. The coffee is also some of the best in the Village. So good, they now have five locations, this was the second - be prepared to wait.
Scandinave Spa, 8010 Mons Rd (~10 mins drive from Whistler Village)
The ultimate in relaxation and recovery. This is Finnish hydrotherapy at its finest and in a natural setting. Cycle between outdoor, hot saltwater pools, cold plunges and relaxation rooms, all while in complete silence. If that is not enough, schedule a massage. Reservations are not required, but bath access is $72 per person.
