Ski in from the base of Thunderhead lift, take a right off the BC Ski Way (just below the Christie III lift) or take a 5-minute walk up from Gondola Square. This self-proclaimed "Five star dive bar" is après ski, ski bum style. The structure is a former ski patrol trailer and indoor seating is limited. Local craft beers are on tap and the food, with a good selection of small bites and flatbreads, is better than it needs to be. On bluebird days, people are lined up outside this institution -10 years running.
A location play, Timber & Torch, is new for the 2018-19 season. You literally can't leave the mountain without walking by and wanting to stop in. The decor is modern and there is ample indoor and outdoor seating. Relax by the heated torches on the patio with a perfect position for live entertainment on the stage across the plaza. There is a full food menu (and kids menu), but we mostly recommend having drinks and snacks.
This local pub, just below street level, has 31 rotating local craft beers on tap and a huge selection of creative cocktails. Everything is fresh - mixers are made of freshly squeezed juice and spirits are house infused. Come for happy hour when many of the beers and cocktails are the same price as the time.
Steamboat Springs is surrounded by ~150 natural hot springs. This larger complex of hot springs is set in the midst of a beautiful Aspen meadow about 30 minutes by car from Steamboat Springs. Be mindful of the need for a four-wheel drive vehicle or chains in the winter months. Entry fees are $15 - 20 / adult, depending on when you go and its cash only. The scene changes after dark and becomes adults only.
Ice cream is a must for our kids after skiing. Lyon's has been here for over 100 years and its real throw back (as are the prices) with tons of charm. Sit at the counter and have a milkshake. The daily flavors of Dryers ice cream are classics like Mint Chip, Butter Pecan and Strawberry. Hot fudge sundaes and banana splits are some of our favorites. If you need more than hot fudge to warm up, the grilled cheese is also delicious. You can also grab souvenirs, Advil or the toothpaste you forgot.
If a day on the slopes is not enough or you want some leg rejuvenation, this place offers fitness and recovery. Yoga, Barre, water aerobics in the outdoor warm pool, and Pilates are highlights. Bigger kids will enjoy the water slide and they have childcare. There are many ways to access - offering daily passes, tickets for 6 or 10 visits and monthly memberships.
