Mountain Guide

Belleayre Trail Guides

Belleayre is ideal for starting out. The beginner runs are primarily situated at the base of the mountain and easily accessible from the Discovery Lodge. There is a flat learning area with several carpets and slow lifts. New for the 2019-20 season, the Lightning Quad goes to the mid-station (The Overlook) where you can access longer green runs as well as lifts to the upper mountain.

Moderate skiers and riders will be very comfortable with Belleayre's approachable terrain. There is a range of choices from either the Gondola or the Superchief Chair. Deer Run, from the top of the Gondola, meanders through a beautiful part of the mountain with great views and surrounding trees. The longest run is 2.2 miles.

There are several gladed areas that are great after fresh snow, though beware, they are not always accessible when the snow cover is low. When Cathedral Brook is open, it is worth the short hike and generally not groomed. On the upper mountain there are several double diamonds. Dot Nebel is used for competitive skiing which results in it being closed to the public at times. There are a number of terrain parks including a progression park and the ability to host a ski cross race.

  • It's easy for families or groups with varied abilities to stay together; a variety of terrain is accessible from the same lifts

  • Snow-making and grooming are the best in the region

On Mountain Dining Recommendations

Belleayre has three on-mountain dining options and two bars. The two main dining areas are at the base lodge (Discovery Lodge) and mid-mountain (Overlook Lodge). Wana Waffle also serves waffles at the Summit.

The Marketplace

The two on-mountain dining options offer the same food. The Chili is a favorite and the rest are staple foods like pizza, burgers, chicken and fish. They also have healthier options like salad and yogurt.

Hamburger and Fries

Groomers Pub

Each lodge has a bar. The bar at the Discovery Lodge is new and the Groomers Pub at the Overlook is a classic here. They are well run, busy and have a huge selection of drinks and beer. Sometimes there is a DJ in the busier season.

Wana Waffle

Located at the Summit, this Waffle Stand is not always open. When it is, it's a real treat to grab all things waffle. In addition to regular waffles, there are chicken & waffles, and waffle fries.

For après and dining, you need to venture into the surrounding area with the most reasonable places in Phoenicia or Margaretville. The closest options are in Pine Hill (~3 miles from the mountain). Our top picks by category:

Not far from the mountain, the Colonial Inn has a lively bar that caters to locals as well as the regular ski-crowd. The beer is cheap and the owner/staff are friendly. There is a pool table, a dart board and quirky antique gimmicks and furniture. From late December, there is a Saturday buffet with a range of good fare, great meats, veggies and desserts. Very sweet people overall.

Peekamoose | Big Indian, NY

Only five miles from the mountain, Peekamoose is the place to go to treat yourself to a great meal after a day of learning to ski or chasing the kiddos around the slopes. Make a reservation or sit in the Tavern Room and enjoy incredible drinks and high-end comfort foods in a cool, rustic atmosphere. Make sure you save room for the s'mores by the fire.

Margherita Pie
Oakley's Woodfire Pizza | Arkville, NY

Oakley's Woodfire Pizza & Grill serves NY style pizza along with a wide selection of sandwiches and burgers from the grill. Located ~7 miles West of the resort along route 28, it's easy to get to, though beware there is no proper parking so you'll need to park along the highway. Oakley's recently changed ownership and renovated the bar.

The Binnekill Tavern is in the nearby town of Margaretville (~10 miles away). Slightly more upscale, but still family friendly. The food is a mix of international, comfort food and American cuisine. You can't go wrong with the burger. The craft cocktails are some of the best around.
