Mount Bohemia Resort Overview

'Boho' as the locals call it, is a gem situated in the northern-most part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Despite it's extremely remote location, skiers and boarders flock to Boho to experience something that can't be replicated within 1,000 miles. Bohemia is notorious among powder seekers for averaging close to 300" of annual lake-effect snow, endless glades, and a laid-back vibe that's all about making turns with your friends. The mountain boasts 900' of vertical of mostly steep terrain, two lifts, and 585 acres of gladed terrain.

The Nordic Spa is the best après scene in the region. It's also home to the largest hot tub in Michigan's Upper Penninsula! However, you won't find many lodging options, fancy restaurants, or even a grocery store near Bohemia. Instead, guests are welcomed to book on-mountain yurts, bring their own sheets, and sign-up to eat one of Boho's featured dinners that comes with your stay. Bohemia doesn't make snow, doesn't groom trails, and their slogan is "NO BEGINNERS ALLOWED".

Quick Take

Let's Go

  • Steep and deep! Boho's combination of 900' vertical and 280" of snow is "like skiing the top-half of a Vermont ski area," and is unmatched by any resort between Ohio and the Continental Divide

  • Although weekends can get busy, crowds are nonexistent during the week

  • Cheap cat skiing! For just $150 for the whole day, Voodoo Mountain cat skiing will open up untouched powder just north of the resort. Reservations are required and seats go fast, so book early!

  • Mount Bohemia also offers back country skiing terrain on ‘Little Boho’. You can access the skin track from the main parking lot. Boot-packing or snowshoeing is also suitable. The mountain itself is small, but skiers and riders can usually find untracked powder turns days after the most recent storm. Check with the resort that the shuttle is running prior to your ascent

Hesitations

  • Remote location. Boho requires a car and is not close to any major urban areas or airports

  • Bohemia is not suited for young children. It does not offer a ski school or lessons

  • Come to Bohemia for the skiing and only the skiing. The accommodations are basic, the options are limited, and off-mountain entertainment is lacking

  • All of the trails are ungroomed black and double blacks! The resort is not kidding when they say "NO BEGINNERS ALLOWED"

Insider Tips

  • Take this trip with your friends who are expert skiers/riders and bring the powder skis or board

  • If venturing into the ‘Extreme Backcountry,’ you will usually need a quick shuttle ride out. Mount Bohemia offers shuttle buses that regularly pick up skiers along Gay Lac La Belle Rd and drops them back at the main base lodge. Keep on the lookout for the ‘Abba Bus,’ it’s a trip.

  • Head to Mount Bohemia's Nordic Spa to rest and relax after a long  day

  • Bohemia offers season passes for $99 during the first week of December. Skiing more than one day on the pass covers the expense!

  • Bring a 4WD car. No exceptions, the roads can get dicey

  • The yurts and cabins can get chilly at night, pack extra bedding and warm clothes
