Intermediate Guide

Mountain Areas

Trails: Beginner, IntermediateExpert

Overview – From Snow Park Lodge: Carpenter Express – Sterling Express – Quincy Express - Lunch @ Empire Canyon Lodge or Stein Erikson – Flagstaff – Little Baldy –  Return to Base

1. 9:00 AM - 11AM – Warm Up on Bald Mountain

From Snow Park Base, take the Silver Lake Express to the Sterling Express to the top of Bald Mt. We covered Bald Mt. in the afternoon of our Day 1 - Intermediate Guide, but there is so much excellent Intermediate terrain here, that it is worth another trip - with fresh legs.

Start a warm up by taking a run or two on Nabob. It should be freshly groomed, is wide open and the loosely spaced trees give it character and make each experience a little different. Have a few laps on the neighboring runs - Wizard, Legal Tender and Keno. All of these run the full length of Bald Mt. and offer stunning views of downtown Park City and the mountain ranges in the distance.

For some slighty Blue steeper terrain, stay left when you exit the lifts at the top and try some of the Double Blues underneath the Sultan Express - Tycoon, Perserverance, Edgar's Alley

For a quick break, Snow Shoe Tommy's is a cozy hut at the top of Bald Mt. Warm up and refeul with coffee, hot chocolate and maybe even a pre-lunch cookie.

2. 11 AM - 1 PM – Empire Canyon

While Empire has relatively less Intermediate terrain than the other peaks, the runs here are long and the views of the sourroudning mountain ranges are majestic.

From Bald Mt., you will need to make your way through Flagstaff to reach Empire Canyon. The most direct route is Quincy Express to Bandana to Empire Express. - make your way to the Silver Lake Base

Two runs we really like, Orion and Supreme

3. 1 PM – 1:45 PM  – Lunch at Empire Canyon Grill (see more on lunch options)

On a blue sky day, we recommend lunch at Silver Lake Restaurant. From the bottom of the Quincy Express on Flagstaff, take a quick ride on Viking to reach the Silver Lake Lodge.

4a. 1:45 PM – 3:15PM – Explore Bowl Line Areas DreamScape and DayBreak

Explore any runs on Flagstaff, then go to Yurt for Apres Ski

4b. - make way back to check out Jordanelle and finish by snow park lodge (ideal if need to pick up chidlren from ski school)

Like to do Jordanelle at the end of the day - nice long burner

5. 3:15PM – 4PM – Return to Snow Park Lodge Base

When you have had your full of Bald Mt. from the bottom of Wasatch Express, take the Crown Point short triple to cross the ridge and follow Kimberly to Big Stick to the Base. From the bottom of Sterling Express, you can also take the Homestake Express (check out the houses) and then take your pick of runs to the base. If you’re feeling a little tired, take Success from the top of Homestake.

Congratulations – you’ve explored Bald Mountain & Empire Canyon - Time for Aprés Ski!
