Crested Butte has its own distillery, Montayna is the locally made rum. Be amazed at the sheer number of rum-based cocktails here. The best part is how much better they taste when enjoyed next to the copper pot in which they were distilled. When you have had enough rum, head over to the Dogwood, CB's other cocktail lounge where they expand beyond the local brew with an array of well crafted cocktails and tasty bar snacks.
It's all about steak, bison or elk at CB's oldest saloon - dating back to pre-1929. Soak in the dark room with a long bar on the right, bare wooden tables and a fireplace, look at the odd trophy (elk, bison, deer on the wall). It feels like not much has changed since the mining days here - expcept perhaps the quality of the food which is top notch. While not for everyone, it's well worth a visit if you are a carnivore.
"A sunny place for shady people." The Elk Avenue Brewing Club, locally known as the "The Eldo" isn't the only music venue in CB, but it's one of the oldest and most established. It features a great line up of bands that travel around the Rockies during the season. If your dive bar days are over, head across the road to the more mellow Princess Wine Bar.
Sunflower, is a farm to table restaurant run by husband and wife team Natalie & Christopher Phillips. Incredibly gracious hosts, they also serve some of the most interesting food in the Gunnison Valley. Let the chefs decide what to make, you literally can't go wrong. The wine pairings are also something special. Make sure you reserve this one well in advance (text Natalie @970-417-7767)
Kyleena Falzone, owner of the Secret Stash, is a bit of a legend in CB — she has the Midas touch when it comes to opening businesses. The Secret Stash (named after certain favorite spots that used to exist on the mountain) started off at the top of Elk Avenue before moving to it's current much larger location. This place is fun and the pizzas are great — wait for the bell to be rung when the team get a big tip!
The Crested Butte Center for the Arts draws some top acts from around the US and it's always worth checking out their calendar when you're in CB. Stay tuned for the grand opening of this brand new center, slated for late 2019. The Center has undergone a $22+ million renovation to bring the biggest and best to CB.
